Wilfried Nancy stated he did not fear losing his job, maintaining, “I believe we are really close to a turnaround,” even after sliding worryingly close to the exit with a heavy defeat by their arch-rivals.

A Second-Half Collapse Leads to Old Firm Disaster

The home side were in front their oldest rivals at the break but a disastrous second period let Rangers to move level on points with the current Scottish Premiership champions. The former MLS manager, who was hired in December, has now presided over six losses in his first eight matches.

“We are together at the club,” insisted Nancy.

Pressed on whether he was concerned, the 48-year-old replied: “That’s not my focus. My focus is on discovering solutions to help my team to improve on small moments.

Protest Outside Parkhead

The fans displayed their anger – directed at the dugout and directors – by protesting at full time. The hierarchy are reportedly likely to bring back Martin O’Neill, who steered the club during a temporary stint previously, should a change be made.

“It’s the results [that leads to pressure]. So this is the situation for the moment. However in stating this is the reality, I am not saying that I am a defeatist guy. No. The message is the turnaround is near, imminently close to reverse our form.”

“Really, Really Close”

Nancy highlights the fact his team can perform strongly for a half at a time. For instance, if not for missed chances they would have been greater than 1-0 up. “There were positives except the fact that we didn't take our chances,” he said. “I acknowledge that we lost, but I must remain fair.

“The level we had at stages was exceptionally high. That happened. And I would not speak so positively if it was not the case. That is the reason, in terms of results, I mentioned we've seen this before. That’s why I feel we are nearly there to things turning around. But for the moment: the fine margins.”

“There were plenty of positives that we did, once more. But now it’s about performing for 90 minutes. My narrative would change if it was not the case. That’s why I firmly believe we will manage to get back on track.”

Röhl’s Cautious Response

Rangers manager was cautious about a serious challenge even after what seemed like a landmark win. “One match at a time, then we can really build up momentum,” he said. “The faith in the squad is outstanding.”
