Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of characters who will split off from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Considering an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

First, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, striking the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The traitor then settled his obligations and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could assist the team access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the family.

This means them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to form the Explorers and Planners groups.

Fans can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
