New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during their latest talk.

“What reassures me, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn commented. “His wife and his kid, they are holding up and he will walk away from this just fine.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where he has been listed as critical but stable.

“Still unsure,” he added. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, he felt really upbeat. And again, that reassures me, that he feels like that and he’s talking that way.”

Authorities issued security footage Monday of an individual wanted in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident is currently under review and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt as confirmed by officials.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning near the famous arena and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.

Glenn said Boyd has occupied his thinking “a great deal” since the news broke. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a newborn.

“My initial concern, he recently became a father,” Glenn noted. “And I’m thinking about his wife, I’m thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that he’s OK. That was my main concern.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd was inactive this season, his debut year with New York, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with a shoulder injury that involved surgical repair.

He joined the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was anticipated to become an important component of the team’s updated special teams under the coach and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during preseason drills on early August and was carted from the field.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad all season long while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn commented. “Certainly, he is a regular at our matches. He’s fully engaged. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, a Texas native, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He later played for the Arizona Cardinals in last year and moved to Houston’s squad later that season. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal for $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
