PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Lift French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the prestigious cup on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the French league champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to complete a convincing shootout win.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
