Sam Fender has given the entirety of his £25,000 honor winnings to the trust for venues, which works to protect the United Kingdom's independent music venues.

The star was given the prize on October 16 as his new release the album was declared the top album of the previous year.

Fender has opted to hand the money over to the MVT, in appreciation of the crucial part small stages fulfilled in his early career.

"I would not have achieved my current career if it weren't for all the performances I performed around the area, and further afield, when I was beginning," remarked Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these locations have ceased operations – approximately one-sixth of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, top acts such as the band Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which benefits smaller concert halls.

He also took part, collecting more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist thirty-eight local spots across Britain.

These funds assisted locations that were facing imminent closure due to difficulties stemming from floods, fires and personal losses, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and noise complaints.

Additional spaces received funding support in improving amenities and gear that positively impacted performers and concertgoers.

"The idea that revenue from concerts in large arenas backs the independent spots, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just logical," the star has commented.

Fender is not the first artist to donate his honor winnings to charitable organizations.

When Pulp won the prize in the mid-90s for their release Different Class, frontman Jarvis Cocker declared that the group would donate their cash to the non-profit the charity.

In 2002, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite shared her prize among multiple organizations, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"Additionally, I gave a grand to my local community centre, to their gymnastics class, because I did gymnastics when I was a child and they needed better apparatus," Ms Dynamite explained to a publication.

Previously, they gave their winnings to the youth organization that supported their band, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

Additionally the 1994 recipients M People contributed their award to a MS organization after a close contact was identified with the disease.

"Winning was ample," remarked vocalist Heather Small. "The prize was the extra but we could do without the bonus, because we had the honor. So our success affected somebody else's life."

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust announced it had protected two small stages in south-east England, by transferring them to local control.

The Joiners in that area and The Croft in that location were purchased under the community ownership program, which is supported by the arts council and enthusiasts who purchase "shares" in the buildings.
