The English Team to Launch the European Championship 2028 Journey at the Etihad Stadium
The English squad will commence their 2028 European Championship campaign at the the home of Manchester City, provided that they attain the relatively straightforward entry for a championship staged throughout most of the United Kingdom and the Ireland.
The Etihad Stadium has not staged an English men’s match since the spring of 2016, when Turkey were defeated 2-1 in a friendly, but is almost certain to host the Three Lions for their inaugural game on a Saturday in June 2028.
England are planned to play their concluding group fixtures at the national stadium, but, in the event of winning Group B, their round of 16 match would occur at the Newcastle stadium. Securing the runner-up spot would mean commencing the playoffs at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Competition Opening and Demonstration
The event was inaugurated at an gathering in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday night. Senior figures from Uefa and the host football associations were barracked as they entered the site by around fifty activists, who demanded Israel’s national side to be removed from international football because of the situation in Gaza.
Signs were raised with slogans saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators shouted: “Kick Israel out.”
Tournament Fixture List
The first match of Euro 2028 will be staged at the the national stadium of Wales in the Welsh capital, on a Friday in June 2028, a fixture that will involve the Welsh team if they qualify.
The national stadium will host both semi-finals and the final, which will be played on Sunday 9 July with a kick-off time at late afternoon.
It is expected that an earlier kick-off, which will also be used for European club finals from the following campaign, will appeal to family audiences and help connect with a wider spectrum of fans.
Qualifying Teams
The Irish team are scheduled to play their opening match at the Dublin Arena and the Tartan Army would do the same at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.
Each host nation’s squad will take part in the qualification process; two automatic spots will be set aside for any that miss out on the finals through the qualification path.
Locations and Playoffs
The Birmingham venue and Spurs’ ground complete the nine tournament locations. Every stadium will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarter-finals played at the national stadium of each host.
The draw for the qualifiers will be staged in the Northern Irish capital, which was removed as a tournament location last year when it became clear the Belfast stadium could not be redeveloped in time, on a date in late 2026.
Tournament Vision
“This will be a tournament for the supporters and a festival of everything we love about the sport – its emotion and ability to unite individuals.”
More than three million passes, a record for a UEFA European Championship, are projected to be released to fans.
